Hello!
I’m Jia

When I was very young, I wanted to be a swordswoman. (Thank you, Jin Yong) And then I wanted to be an elf.(Thank you, Tolkien) These days, I’ve settled on just being a writer.

I write (mostly) speculative fiction, and sometimes dabble in poetry.

Apart from writing, I also love reading. And I also like wuxia (武侠), xianxia (仙侠), gufeng (古风) music, art, design, film, history, folklore and a couple of other nerdy things. And not so nerdy things. Like tea. And coffee. And kitchen adventures.

I live in Singapore, where you’ll sometimes find me trying to recite chinese poetry or singing out-of-tune gufeng songs when I think no one’s listening.

I also have a Substack where I post sporadic musings about Chinese Lit, translation, heritage and other things that come to mind.

Other things I’ve written include:

  • “Painted Skin”. Penumbric, upcoming Dec 2025. (Poetry)
  • “Dark Night Suffused with Stars’. Augur, Volume 8.1, Aug 2025
